Illusion of Depth

Cockrell learners in 4th and 5th grade are drawing from their imagination.  They were taught various ways to create an illusion of depth with a primary focus on linear perspective.  4th grade students also learned about the famous artist Vincent van Gogh and drew inspiration from his painting of his Bedroom at Arles.  5th Grade students were introduced to architecture and used their imagination to create cityscapes.

Drawing Grids

Cockrell Learners are using advanced proportions to draw Pop Art portraits inspired by Andy Warhol.  This method helps students to draw by using the right side of their brain. Students label the rows and columns and use them as map coordinates so they don't get lost in their drawing.  The drawing grid was first used by the artist Albrecht Durer (1471-1528).   In today's educational paradigm many would label this a STEAM project.   #future ready
