VETERANS DAY MURALS UPDATE

VETERANS DAY MURALS
The students began to break ground on their murals today.  Each team was asked to collaborate and bring their ideas together to develop a Veterans day sketch.  Once they completed their designs the students used chalk to begin their murals.  We use chalk since it erases when you paint over it.  Size and placement can be difficult when going from sketch to a huge bulletin board.  A strategy we used was to fold the paper twice to help provide guidelines to draw from.  This strategy is similar to using a drawing grid to help students with the use of proportion--size relationships.

CLAY SCULPTURES
4th and 5th grade Art Club students were shown pictures of clay sculptures.  They had to analyze these sculptures to determine which clay modeling techniques were used to construct each sculpture. They were then able to create Fish, Turtles, and Portraits using clay modeling techniques.  If you want to create more of these at home try using Sculpey Polymer clay.  It comes in different colors and you can bake it in your oven on a cookie sheet.
